Blogger Assassinations & badSARA

May 23, 2006 20065 11:13 pm | In Money Tips, SARA |

In just the short 10 months since I've started blogging and reading M'sian blogs, I've witnessed at least 3 attempts (XX, Kahsoon, MenJ) to "assassinate"/"silence" bloggers and I'm sure there were more. I might just be the next one in line after this post but help me understand this: Why is there a need to gang up against bloggers who make mistakes or present views you don't agree with?

I'm not sure if this is a M'sian thing. In fact, the only chance I got to work with M'sians recently was in a recent community activity over here in London and I have to say the actions of some people really surprises me - backstabbing, rumour mongering, talking behind ppl's backs, etc and all for what? Just a small event which most of my Brit friends couldn't understand why I'm kicking such a big fuss about.

Is it just to bring some excitement to the blogging world or are we just trying to pick trouble in our small community when there's already enough troubles in the real world? Please lah.

Anyway, since I'm so addicted to blog reading, I would like to invite all these so-called rejected bloggers to submit your feeds to a special section of SARA, which I'll call badSARA for now.

Please suggest more feeds in the comments section!

    1. Hey, good idea! I love the logo but am I bad enuff yet? kehkehkeh Yeap, I got the assassination attempts before too. It just make the victim a lot more resilient, a positive point, actually.

You know what pissed me off most? The commentors/anons./trolls who come out in droves after one person start opening the mouth.

Eeek, looks like you gotta reserve a place for me liao.

    7. sarawho.com/bad not working?

      Comment by Fat4 — May 24, 2006 #

    8. Hi! Dropped by for a read, only to discover that I have received some readers from sarawho.com. Million thanks.

I wish to clarify some matters. I have written an article on MENJ, asking readers to think about their future. Not necessary against MENJ, but for our future as a nation. We are a developing nation and we should participate in building a good society etc.

I have also clearly stated that there should not be any name calling or hassling/bullying at MENJ's blog. In no way do I condone nor encourage some actions taken against him.

When it comes to the police - I wished that the police will keep a tab on him (the just in case factor) but not for some men in blue uniforms come knocking on MENJ's door anytime soon.

I hope that he finishes his education because I think education helps broaden our horizons and hopefully help us see beyond our four walls. So complaining to his college is a big no-no to me.

That's it from me. I'll be back soon to check on good and bad sara :) cheers!

    9. Hi Otto,

Thanks for visiting. I add blogs to SARA when I find ones which are readable/interesting =)

I believe most readers are intelligent and would not just believe things that some ppl say without researching more themselves. And so badSARA's here to balance the act, catering to the "outcast" of the blogging world.

The problem with our culture is that when someone prominent says something bad about another person, ppl will just agree and nod their heads without hesitation. We need thinkers not followers!

Isn't calling for extreme actions abit ironic in itself - using an extreme method to deal with an extremist? That's equivalent to the Americans invading Afghanistan, then Iraq and now, probably Iran.

Since Menj hasn't been going around holding an AK47 or trying to bomb the twin towers, I think it would bring us more benefit to let him continue writing about his passion so that we can at least know or understand his views on things, rather than kick him out of the blogging world and let him find an alternative method of expressing himself.

Anyway, I think this incident has bred more hatred in him rather than making him realise his mistake.

      Just my 2 cents.

    11. The idea that MENJ might feel injustice was served on his platter occurred to me sometime over the weekend. I agree with what you've mentioned here.

It is better for MENJ to have his blog, as an outlet for his passion and ideas. Closing his blog down would be bad for him and the rest of us as a whole. A discourse between MENJ and his readers (such as I) would have benefited both parties. So I guess it all boils down to mutual respect and generous spirit.

I was asking readers to do exactly what you've mentioned - asking readers to think and to talk about it. I think I need to rectify any misconceptions readers might have of me and the post which I wrote.

I encouraged them to discuss the issue of racial harmony, mutual respect and the nation's future. I asked young people to participate in the country's building by voicing our concerns, vote etc. I did not ask for a specific retribution on MENJ himself.

You know, I don't even think it is necessary for MENJ to apologize. So complaining to his webhost, college, the police or the Prime Minister's department are certainly a no-no from my point of view.

Thanks for giving me a voice over at your blog. Much appreciated. Good day ahead.

    12. otto, you seem like a fair and understanding person. unfortunately as a whole, the malaysian blogosphere is not. It is more like a moronic mass which is being herded by a few shepards, if you get my flow. There are quarters who kept harping on about how people do not know her writes about her and yet she openly criticise people. talk about hypocrisy. That's one of the worst.

      thanks boringest :)

    13. no problems. seems that menj has apologised and we should bury this matter but badSARA's still there…any baddies wanna join?

    14. Can I be a baddie too?

Fat4: Hey you! I've repeated what I wanted to say so many times at different comments that my fingers can type while I am asleep!

I do wish MENJ all the best and that he doesn't lose sleep over this. It was meant to be a discussion, you voice your opinions, I voice mine. Then we go teh tarik together….

Which was why I went around various blogs to perhaps steer them back towards what I originally tried to encourage them to do; which is to think and form their own opinions.

Anyway now that the tide has passed and everything's settled, teh tarik anyone?

    19. Considering that Menj posted porno links on Petaling Street under my name and got me banned from PPS, no, I DON'T have to respect him or his opinions at all.
