Safari for Windows Beta vs Opera 9.21!

June 12, 2007 20076 11:30 am | In Tech | 2 Comments

Wasn't really too interested to install Safari until I saw the above where Apple claims Opera loads HTML even slower than IE & Firefox!!! How could the fastest browser in the world be that slow? Are the results doctored or is the benchmarking software inaccurate? So I installed it and then tried loading Apple's Start Page:

If you see the pic above, you would have noticed that Opera loaded 1st, and Safari only managed to load the navigation bars. Note that Safari had the head start first with its default start page, then I went on to Opera to enter the address!!!

Also while checking for memory consumption, it seems that Opera while running more functions consumes less memory than Safari! Not to mention I'm running Mail + Feeds + several UserJS scripts in Opera!

So if you wanna test it yourself, try here – Opera 9.21 & Safari.

    1. I completely agre with you, i went on to Apple's site to check out "The world's best browser." and to really see if it actually outperformed Opera's HTML rendering by 3 times!

I did the same thing as you, i opened apple.com with safari first then switched to opera…with no suprise opera did display the page first. The CPU and memory usage is horrifying on safari as well… i currently have 5 tabs open and one other window open on safari with it sitting at roughly 75MB and using 3% of my CPU with spikes as high at 13…while i opened the SAME tabs in Opera as well as another window…then opened six more tabs heh and its sitting at 43MB and the CPU usage at 0% with spikes up to 6%…

Regardless to what they're claiming i'm impressed as it does kick IE and is comparable to Firefox's performance, however splurging false statistics about Opera without very solid proof really doesn't do it for me.

Thanks for this article lol it makes me feel good to know that others actually appreciate Opera as much as i do…

      -Cheers
