Pickpocketed in London? Now what?

September 13, 2009 20099 12:25 am | In Personal | Comments Off

Girlfriend just got pickpocketed in the tube between Hyde Park & Knightsbridge. Some guy (caucasian, tall) bumped into her just before the train stopped and in that few seconds of chaos, she found her handbag opened & the Salvatore Ferragamo purse I just bought her stolen!

Anyway, a loss is a loss, what was difficult is that there's not much info online to tell you what to do next? Basically you need to act fast, pickpockets take as little as 15-20 mins after incident to max out your credit cards, etc.

So, after some googling, here's what to do, if any of you got into the same situation:

1. Cancel all the bank cards i.e. debit/credit. Here are some numbers:

Natwest – 08706000459;
HSBC – 08456007010;
Abbey – 08459724724 option 3

2. Make a police report. Before calling, it's recommended that you've inventoried from memory what you have in your wallet. If you're pickpocketed in the tube/National Rail, you need to goto the British Transport Police (0800405040). Any other place, goto London Met. They have an online service for non-urgent cases:

https://online.met.police.uk/

3. Get replacement for your lost driving license:

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/NeedANewOrUpdatedLicence/DG_4022085

4. You'll need to contact your embassy for replacement of ID card. For Malaysians, you'll need to go to Malaysian High Commision (45 Belgrave Square SW1X 8QT) and get replacement IC with following documents:

- A copy of the police report
- A copy of the Malaysian Passport
- Other documents that can be used as proof of citizenship
- A self-addressed envelope with stamps

  • Boringest Movie Reviews II

    November 7, 2008 200811 3:54 am | In Personal | Comments Off

Well, yet another movie review…this is gonna be long. Sorted in no particular order:

    1. Iron Man – Wow! This IS the action-movie of the year. Robert Downey Jr. is perfect in this role and I suspect this movie alone will boost sales of collectibles! (10/10)

    2. Babylon A.D – I expected a surprise like Chronicles of Riddick, but Vin Diesel's getting old, and the story just doesn't flow! Maybe it's the young girl who made Vin Diesel look like a pedobear sometimes…lol, but action scenes are decent (6/10)

    3. Ping Pong Playa – Quite a funny movie…Jimmy Tsai's (C-Dub in the movie) a little annoying at the beginning with him trying to speak like a black dude, but after a while, you start to feel for the character. Smith Cho (Knight Rider geek beauty) looks much better here with less make-up. (7/10)

    4. Burn After Reading – Pretty amusing story, I think this movie can at least win the most number of f*ck spoken in the film for the year…lol, made me say WTF alot of times too. (8/10)

    5. Star Wars – The Clone Wars – I'm a Star Wars fan, I just like it, although it's not groundbreaking… (7/10)

    6. A Complete History of My Sexual Failures – pretty interesting documentary. I can say it's not a complete history, but there's this sex-addict ex-gf who said he was the last white guy she dated and went for Asians after that….lol…made me wonder. (7/10)

    7. Bangkok Dangerous – Charlie Yeung playing a mute girl? I wonder what happened to her for the past few years. She looks much better now though….but Nicholas Cage should just be bald (6.5/10)

    8. Mr Brooks – This movie surprised me! (7/10)

    9. Death At A Funeral – This film is really funny. British films are doing quite well this year. (8.6/10)

    10. Hell Ride – not exactly a Tarantino film, but had similar tempo in the storyline… (7/10)

    11. Pathology – pretty decent thriller (7/10)

    12. Deception – a phone call away from sex with high fliers – no questions asked. I wonder if it really exists…lol, weak ending though. (7/10)

    13. Forgetting Sarah Marshall – good movie for those who just broke up, really hillarious in some parts (7/10)

    14. Futurama – Bender's Big Score – they should just stick to 30-min slots (6/10)

    15. Red Cliff – I sat through 3 hours of this movie & it didn't even end? Pretty good production though. And please, why it seems that Tony Leung's getting it these days in HK cinema. (7/10)

    16. Righteous Kill – I expected more from the combo of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, but I guess they kept them apart for a reason. No one really shined in this movie. (6.5/10)

    17. Journey to the Center of the Earth – Fun family movie, it's kinda gives you the same feeling like Jumanji. (6.5/10)

    18. Death Race – Just an action movie, something along the lines of Tokyo Drift. (6/10)

    19. Fool's Gold – Beautiful beaches, nice boats, ok movie for a lazy aftenoon… (6/10)

    20. Made of Honor – I don't normally watch chick flicks, but this is pretty funny! (7/10)

    21. The Bucket List – Strong beginning, pretty weak ending. Still pretty fun to watch (7/10)

    22. Kung Fu Panda – I liked it, been a long time since The Incredibles for some animated movie to make some impact. (8/10)

    23. You Don't Mess with Zohan – Mariah Carey can't act…but it's pretty entertaining nonetheless (6/10)

    24. Shoot Em Up – pretty good action movie, from start to end…a keeper, and I can't believe Monica Belluci still looks like that at 48! (8/10)

    25. Superhero Movie – from the crew of Scary Movie, but sadly not as funny. (4/10)

    26. Cloverfield – I thought I would not like this movie, or turn up to be some crap like Blair Witch Project, but it's surprisingly good. Guess showing bits & pieces of the monster's builds up the suspense.

    27. Into the Wild – This movie's a masterpiece, and the landscape shots are really beautiful! Must watch! (9/10)

    28. Hitman – This show needs Jason Stratham, PERIOD. (6/10)

    29. Rambo 4 – 236 kills! AWESOME!!! (9/10)

    30. The Savages – this movie's pretty sad, but entertaining nonetheless. (7/10)

    31. You Kill Me – I think Ben Kingsley finally got himself a good role in this one…after a series of really bad films from Uwe Boll. (6.5/10)

    32. Dead Space – Downfall – animated movie for a game, makes me feel like playing it! (6/10)

    33. Step Brothers – LOL, this movie's funny, finally something close to Anchorman & Old School. (8.5/10)

    34. Hellboy 2 – The Golden Army – Selma Blair's really *HOT* here…lol, nice work on the imagining, landscape, costumes, etc but the story's not deep enough…not too bad though(7/10)

    35. Hancock – It's time for Will Smith to quit acting, nothing good came up since MIB & Independence Day…(6/10)

    36. The Happening – I kinda enjoyed this movie, I can't explain why…I guess "its all an act of nature which we will never understand" (7/10)

    37. Harold & Kumar – Escape from Guantanamo Bay – White Castle was genius but the only thing I could remember from this movie is the Cockmeat Sandwich…yucks, damn you Harold & Kumar!!! (6/10)

    38. Speed Racer – What can I say, it's colourful…could have gave adult viewers something more…but maybe I should just realise I'm already a grown-up…lol (6/10)

    39. The Bank Job – Saffron Burrows saved the movie. Otherwise, it pretty much bombed, focussing too much on Jason Stratham perhaps… (6/10)

    40. 21 – Pretty ok plot, but I expected more mathematical shit coming from this. (6/10)

    41. Be Kind Rewind – I expected another School of Rock, but there's just not enough funny parts to get it going… (5.5/10)

    42. Jumper – Hayden Christensen couldn't act and here same thing happening again. Could have been a better movie if not for him. (6/10)

    43. The Promotion – This is a dark comedy. Wrong casting perhaps. (5/10)

    44. Vantage Point – It has a strong story, same time period showing what's really happening from diffent vantage points, but something is lacking…probably needs more action. (7/10)

    45. Felon – Val Kilmer's acting is pretty commendable here. But this movie serves as a reminder how life can be so f*cked up when you get jailed for killing somebody trying to rob you! (6.8/10)

    46. Doomsday – B sci-fi movie, but when you happen to find a Bentley Continental GT as a runaway car it really is pretty unrealistic! Need more gore/sex to spice it up though…lol (6/10)

    47. Untraceable – pretty interesting story, but considering ISPs can just block any sites they want, there's a hole in the plot. Anyway, it's worth watching if you're bored. (6/10)

    48. 10,000 BC – Just an action film, nothing great but pretty enjoyable. (6/10)

    49. Semi-Pro – Gosh, this is really bad…skip it! No where near Old School or Anchorman. (1/10)

    50. Son of Rambow – British films seem to be getting better. This film explores so many topics but focuses on 2 boys trying to make an action film like Rambo. Very funny and some scenes are really touching. (9/10)

    51. No Country for Old Men – The most memorable thing after the movie is probably Chigurh's cattle gun! Most people just don't feel intimidated by it, until they are dead… (8/10)

    52. There Will Be Blood – Started well but ended up pretty f*cked up! Seems to get really good reviews in IMDB though, but probably due to the references to US history…which I'm not too familiar with. (6/10)

    53. Wanted – could have been better, concept is good, action is pretty good, but curling your bullet seems to defy laws of physics…the pacing seems abit rushed & I'm not sure if it's just me but Angelina Jolie lost her touch here… (7/10)

    54. Tropic Thunder – I really liked all the Vietnam War-era shows, so naturally this film is very amusing to me. Laughed so much in the first 45 mins of the film, but it slowed down after that… (6.8/10)

    55. The X Files – I Want to Believe – It's disappointing. I'd expected something more "X-File"-ish, and I find Scully more annoying now and can't imagine equate Mulder to David Duchovny's character in Californicatoin… (4.5/10)

    56. Day Watch – Russian sci-fi movie…pretty decent (6/10)

    57. Dark Knight – Should have ended when he got Joker, but why close it for Two-Face too? Still, pretty good movie. (8.5/10)

Last week was a truly horrible & hard one for me! Staring at a 33% loss on my portfolio, all my Lehman shares went belly up, girlfriend of 6 years wanted a break-up due to the distance (I don't blame her…just thought our 6 years would have meant more), and promotion got again delayed…but the surprising thing is I got an offer from a family friend for a job in Afghanistan or Saudi. I have doubts working for a Chinaman and I hardly know him, but I wonder how bad can it be compared to what I'm doing now…perhaps, I need to goto Afghanistan to experience something new & get away from all my troubles now.

    sighz…
